Egypt and 2012 Theory

You might of heard something along the lines of "The Egyptian calendar predicts catastrophic events in 2012", but just how true is this statement? The Egyptians do make some connections to 2012, but none of them are about the end of the world or anything of that matter.

About Them

Ancient Egypt came together around 3150 BC. In terms of mathematics and architecture, Ancient Egypt was highly advanced. They built Pyramids that weighed over seven million tons and they were one of the first civilizations to develop an alphabet.

The 2012 connection

The most common association between 2012 and the Egyptians is the Calendar which is ends in 2012. There is indeed a calendar called the “calendar of stone” which is engraved in The Great Pyramid of Giza. It uses a “Phoenix Cycle” which follows the galactic orbit and ends the present time period (not surprisingly) in the galactic alignment of 2012.

Could this be more proof the world is going to end in 2012 or is does it simply make sense that a calendar following the galactic orbit would end in the galactic alignment which is the end period of 26,000 year cycle of galactic equator?

There are other connections between Ancient Egypt and 2012, but their meanings remain relatively unknown. For example, in 2012 the top of each Pyramid along with the Sphinx of Giza will align with Orion’s belt. Although the reasons why they built the Pyramids and the Sphinx of Giza to match the stars isn’t very clear, it is suspected that its because of the great significance 2012 had for them.

Two rather bleak connections remain. The “Hall of Records” (a great library filled with information about the Egyptians which is believed to be buried somewhere under the great Sphinx) is believed to be opened December 21, 2012 at 10:18:13 local Cairo time. And finally the Bull of Egypt called Osiris is supposed to be resurrected at 22:18:13 on December 21, 2012.

These last two have little supportive evidence and the scientific explanations provided are simply theories created by a couple of obscure researchers. One thing is for sure, none of these 2012 connections point to any catastrophic or doomsday event and anyone saying otherwise is probably trying to scare you into buying some type of product or service.

What lies ahead

None of these links with 2012 should cause us any worry. Potentially everything above can be explained by the Egyptians simply attaching great importance to the galactic alignment. It’s not very clear why this is the case but if anything was to happen, it’s likely to be good. If the “Hall of Records” was to open it would broaden our understanding of the how Ancient Egypt worked and that’s a good thing.
